Internet in Serbia without roaming: a guide

Internet in Serbia: roaming, a Serbian SIM or an eSIM?

Serbia is not a member of the European Union, so a Polish SIM loses "roam like at home" at the border with Hungary or Croatia. Polish operators charge for it as a country outside the EU. Belgrade for a weekend, Novi Sad for a festival, a transit drive to the sea in Greece or Montenegro: in every case your phone keeps working, and the roaming rates do not take a break.

What to know about Serbia in particular

  • Transit. The motorway through Serbia is the shortest route from Poland to Greece and Montenegro; navigation, tolls and detours need data for the whole day's drive.
  • Belgrade. You order taxis in an app (Yandex Go, CarGo) with the price known up front; in the city coverage is excellent.
  • A tour of the Balkans. Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro and Albania on one trip: the regional "Balkans" package.
  • Coverage is good on the motorways, in the cities and in Vojvodina, weaker in the mountains in the south.

Questions about the internet in Serbia

I am driving through Serbia to Greece. Is an eSIM worth it?

For a one-day drive, a small package usually is: roaming on a Polish SIM in Serbia is expensive, and navigation needs data non-stop.

Does the package for Serbia work in Bosnia?

No. For several Balkan countries choose a regional package.

Do I have to register with my passport?

Not with an eSIM bought in Poland. Registration applies to Serbian SIM cards bought locally.
