Internet in Bali and Indonesia: roaming, a local SIM or an eSIM?

Indonesia lies in Polish operators' most distant and most expensive roaming zone. You can buy a local SIM at Denpasar airport with your passport, but a phone with an Indonesian SIM is subject to registration by its IMEI number; for tourists the registration at purchase is enough for 90 days. An eSIM bought in Poland works in roaming, so IMEI registration does not apply to it.

What to know about Bali in particular

  • Gojek and Grab are a scooter with a driver, a taxi and food delivery. In Bali you use them every day, and without data there is no way to order one.
  • On a scooter around Ubud, Canggu and Uluwatu the map on your phone is essential; the roads are narrow and there are few signs.
  • The islands nearby. You book the ferries and stays on Nusa Penida, the Gilis and Lombok from your phone. The package for Indonesia works on every island the network reaches.

Before you fly

    Dial *#06#: an EID line means the phone supports eSIM. The phone must not be locked to an operator.
  2. 2.
    Choose a package for Indonesia and pay with BLIK, a card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
  3. 3.
    Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi: instructions for your phone.
  4. 4.
    After landing, switch data to the eSIM and turn on data roaming on it.

Questions about the internet in Bali

Do I have to register my phone's IMEI?

No, if you use an eSIM bought in Poland: it works in roaming. Registration applies to phones with an Indonesian SIM.

Is one package enough for Bali and Lombok?

Yes. The package covers the whole of Indonesia.

Does a layover in Singapore or Doha use up the package?

No. The package works only on Indonesian networks.
