Step by step
How to install an eSIM on an iPhone
Installing an eSIM on an iPhone step by step: from a QR code or by entering the code manually, naming the line, turning on data and roaming after landing. iPhone XS and newer.
What you need
- iPhone XS, XR or newer (including the SE from the 2nd generation); the US version of the iPhone from the 14 onwards has no SIM card slot at all.
- Dial *#06# on your phone’s keypad: if the screen shows an EID line, the phone supports eSIM.
- In Settings › General › About, next to “Network Provider Lock” it should say “No SIM restrictions”.
- An internet connection while you install, ideally Wi-Fi at home.
Installing from a QR code
When you have a second screen to show the code on: a computer, a tablet or another phone.
- 1
Open the QR code on another screen
Show the QR code from your account on a computer, a tablet or a second phone. An iPhone can’t scan a code on its own screen.
- 2
Scan the QR code
Point the camera at the code, tap “Continue”, then “Add Mobile Plan”. Installation takes up to a minute.

Installing with an activation code
When you install on the same phone you’re reading the code on: there’s nothing to scan.
- 1
Copy the SM-DP+ address and the activation code
In your account, next to your eSIM, each field has its own copy button. On an iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later you can also touch and hold the QR code on the ticket: “Add eSIM” appears.
- 2
Paste them in the settings
Choose “Enter Details Manually” and paste the address and the code into the fields of the same names.

Before you travel
- 3
Name the line
The iPhone asks for a label for the new line. Choose, for example, “Travel”, to tell it apart from your main number.
- 4
Keep data on your main SIM until you leave
Leave calls, texts and mobile data on “Primary”. If the plan also covers Poland, turn the “Travel” line off until the day you leave: in “Mobile Service”, open “Travel” and turn off “Turn On This Line”.

Switch mobile data to the eSIM
Turn the “Travel” line back on if it was off, and choose it for mobile data. On the same screen, turn off “Allow Mobile Data Switching”, or the iPhone may use data through your main number. In iOS 26 the iPhone itself offers to turn on the travel eSIM.

Turn on data roaming for the eSIM
Without data roaming the eSIM won’t connect to a network abroad. Leave data roaming off on your main SIM, so your operator doesn’t charge you.

When something doesn’t work
- The QR code won’t scan
- Use the code method instead: copy the address and the code from your account and paste them into “Enter Details Manually”.
- No data after landing
- Check that mobile data goes through “Travel” and that data roaming is on for it. Turn aeroplane mode on and off.
- The iPhone asks for an APN
- Write to us and we’ll give you the right value for your plan.
