How to install an eSIM on a Google Pixel and other Android phones

Installing an eSIM on a Google Pixel and phones with stock Android step by step: QR code or manual code, the data SIM and roaming after landing. Pixel 3 and newer, Motorola, OnePlus, Sony, Oppo.

What you need

  • Google Pixel 3 and newer, Motorola Razr and Edge, OnePlus, Sony Xperia, Oppo, Honor and others with Android 10 or later; the menu names may differ slightly.
  • Dial *#06# on your phone’s keypad: if the screen shows an EID line, the phone supports eSIM.
  • The phone must not be locked to a network (SIM lock).
  • An internet connection while you install, ideally Wi-Fi at home.

Installing from a QR code

When you have a second screen to show the code on: a computer, a tablet or another phone.

  1. 1

Open the QR code on another screen

Show the QR code from your account on a computer, a tablet or a second phone.

  2. 2

    Scan the QR code

Next to “SIMs”, tap “+” or “Add SIM”, choose “Download a SIM instead?” and point the camera at the code. Confirm; installation takes up to a minute.

Installing with an activation code

When you install on the same phone you’re reading the code on: there’s nothing to scan.

  1. 1

Copy the activation code in your account

Next to your eSIM, tap “Copy code”. It is one line starting with LPA:1$; copy it in full.

  2. 2

    Enter the code manually

On the scanner screen, choose “Need help?” or “Enter it manually”, paste the code and confirm.

  2. 4

Keep data on your main SIM until you leave

Leave “Mobile data” on your main SIM. If the plan also covers Poland, turn off the “Use SIM” switch on the “Travel” eSIM until the day you leave.

After you land

  1. 5

    Switch data to the eSIM

Turn the eSIM back on if it was off, and on “Travel” turn on “Mobile data”.

  2. 6

Turn on roaming for the eSIM

On the “Travel” eSIM’s screen, turn on “Roaming”. Leave roaming off on your main SIM.

When something doesn’t work

There is no “Download a SIM instead?” option
This model doesn’t support eSIM or is locked to a network. Check for the EID line after dialling *#06#.
No data after landing
Check that “Mobile data” is set to the eSIM and that roaming is on for it. Turn aeroplane mode on and off.
My phone has different menu names
Manufacturers change the names, but the path is the same: network settings, SIM cards, adding an eSIM. Search for the word eSIM in the settings search.
