Is an eSIM safe?
Yes. The profile is encrypted and tied to your phone, and your data goes through the operator’s network as it does with any SIM card.
Yes. eSIM is the same GSMA standard that operators use all over the world; the profile is downloaded over an encrypted channel and tied to the chip in your phone. It can’t be copied to another device, and nobody can “intercept” the QR code after installation, because the code works only once.
Data over an eSIM goes through the local operator’s network, as it does with any SIM card. With public Wi-Fi at the airport or in a café it is the other way round: your own data from the eSIM is safer than an open hotel network.
Treat the QR code and the activation code like a password until you install: don’t send them to strangers.
